Technology is meeting the real world in new and exciting ways through the advent of widely available Virtual Reality, and it’s now about to take you into the orchestra.
The Philharmonia is an orchestra housed at the Southbank Centre right at the River Thames. It was founded in 1945 and has recorded music for movies and games as well as putting on more than 30 concerts a year.
In October, the Philharmonia is serving up Sibelius and a special extra helping of 360 degree immersive video conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.
With a VR headset you can step inside the performance experience the Fifth Symphony from the middle of the orchestra, complete with immersive sound and the ability to look any direction.
The Virtual Orchestra 360 Experience is available on the foyer of the Southbank Centre right now, and is just the first step at the future of immersive entertainment featuring the fusion of virtual reality the most creative minds in the world.
