This morning saw the worldwide reveal of the next console from Nintendo: the hotly anticipated Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, aka the Mini SNES, is hitting our shores on September 29th.
Originally released in Ireland all the way back in 1992, the SNES was the best-selling console of its era and is fondly remembered by older gamers for its wide variety of awesome games including Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Kart and the wonderful Super Mario World.
The Mini SNES is set to recapture some of the original console’s magic and comes loaded with 21 classic games:
- Contra III: The Alien Wars
- Donkey Kong Country
- Final Fantasy III
- Kirby Super Star
- Kirby’s Dream Course
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Mega Man X
- Secret of Mana
- Star Fox
- Star Fox 2
- Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
- Super Castlevania IV
- Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
- Super Mario Kart
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- Super Mario World
- Super Metroid
- Super Punch-Out!!
- Yoshi’s Island
The tiny console fits in your hand and can be quickly and easily plugged into any HD TV using the provided HDMI cable, enabling owners to replay their childhood memories in high definition.
Notably, the Mini SNES collection includes Star Fox 2, an unreleased game that was scheduled for release in 1995 but was cancelled due to the imminent release of the Nintendo 64.
This is the second Mini console Nintendo has released: last year’s Mini NES went on sale in November and sold out almost immediately.
The Mini SNES is very likely to sell-out even quicker when it goes on sale in September and hopefully Nintendo will capitalise on the popularity of the console by adding new games to its collection after its release.
