While the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus may be out, the coming weeks are still an exciting time to be an Apple fan. Apple has another unveiling event scheduled this month and is expected to announce the iPad Air 2. Here are all the rumours regarding this highly anticipated device.
The follow-up to 2013’s incredibly popular 9.7-inch iPad Air is expected to include a host of new features and improve on the original’s specs. Leaked images indicate that the iPad Air 2 will be the first iPad to support Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint scanner. This hints at the possibility that the iPad Air 2 will support the recently announced Apple Pay.
While last year’s iPad Air was quite different to previous models, it’s expected that the iPad Air 2 will be more iterative. The iPad Air 2 will reportedly use feature a “fully-laminated display,” just like the iPhone. This will allow Apple to shave off approximately 0.5mm and therefore market it as the thinnest tablet on the market. It may be slightly lighter and thinner, but don’t expect too many drastic changes.
The most intriguing element comes from an alleged third-party case leak. There is a hole just above where the volume keys would be. Some have suggested that this could be a space for an LED flash, which is yet to feature on an iPad, or even a laser-assisted focus. And while Apple is typically slow to upgrade any device’s camera, it is rumoured that the iPad Air 2 will feature an improved 8 megapixel camera.
Internally, the iPad Air 2 is also tipped to be an improvement on the original. It’s expected that it will utilise an upgraded A8 processor will feature 2GB RAM, instead of the 1GB that’s included in the iPhone 6. The new iPad Air will not be available as a 16GB variant, apparently, but will come in 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB versions.
Those concerned about the aesthetics of the device, or who want all their gadgets to match, may be pleased to hear that the iPad Air 2 is expected to come in a gold colour option as well as the usual grey and silver colours.
Apple is expected to announce the iPad Air 2 on October 16th. There is also a chance that Apple will announce a new iPad mini and a larger iPad Pro, but the latter is much less likely.
In Short: Apple is expected to announce the iPad Air 2 at an event on October 16th. Here are all the rumours you need to know about.
