One of the largest tech conferences of the year, known as IFA, will take place in Germany from the 5th-8th September. Many of the large smartphone manufacturers will announce new and exciting products at the show. But before they get to show off their wares in an official capacity, there are often leaks. We’ve gathered some of the more interesting rumours ahead of the show, but we will be at the showcase in Berlin, so keep an eye on Twitter for all the breaking news as it happens.
Sony tends to bring plenty of new products to large events such as this and this year looks likely to be no different. A reference to an unannounced Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact was spotted in a user guide for Sony’s newest Bluetooth speaker. This tablet is rumoured to feature an 8-inch display and will arrive with internal specs similar to those in the Xperia Z3 smartphone.
If that is the case, the Z3 Tablet Compact will come with a Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM and a 1080p resolution display. Of course, Sony is also expected to reveal the Xperia Z3 smartphone, which will once again go toe-to-toe with the best that Samsung and Apple can offer.
Samsung is expected to be busy with announcements at IFA. We are likely to see an announcement of the Galaxy Note 4. This is tipped to feature a 5.7-inch QHD screen, which may curve; a Snapdragon 805 or Exynos processor, depending on region; 3GB RAM; and the latest version of Android 4.4. Samsung may also reveal further plans regarding wearable technology, including a new smartwatch and potentially a virtual reality headset.
Microsoft is currently gearing up to jump on the selfie bandwagon with the codenamed Superman. This handset is rumoured to feature a 5 megapixel front-facing camera, while its 4.7-inch screen is perfectly suited to checking that photos have turned out as desired.
Meanwhile, HTC is getting on board with the Windows Phone operating system. HTC will bring out a version of its superb One M8 device out with the Windows Phone OS. This device will feature the same look and specs as its Android-based counterpart, so Windows Phone users can rejoice.
Motorola is hosting an event in Chicago on September 4th, so there is a possibility that its products will also make an appearance at IFA. Its invite did not give much away, but a G2 handset, a new X handset, a smartwatch and a headset are likely to be on the agenda. We’re looking forward to seeing the Moto 360 smartwatch up close and personal.
