Facebook is testing out a new feature designed to encourage conversation. This feature highlights what friends are talking about and pops them in a single box at the top of your News Feed.
Some Android users have reported seeing this new feature on their feed. It supposedly highlights posts from people who you speak with most frequently. It collects posts from these friends and displays them under the “What friends are talking about” section on your News Feed.
It seems to offer your friends’ updates in smaller chunks, as you can see from the photo posted by Mashable, so you won’t have to scroll quite as much to catch up with everything that’s going on. It also means it’ll be easier to have your say on something without having to scroll.
Facebook previously hinted that such a change could be made to its News Feed. In a post announcing plans to change the algorithm, it said that it wanted to promote content from friends and family members.
At the time, Facebook’s VP of Product Management, Adam Mosseri, wrote, “The goal of News Feed is to show people the stories that are most relevant to them.” Engineering Director Lars Backstrom added, “We are updating News Feed over the coming weeks so that the things posted by the friends you care about are higher up in your News Feed.”
