The first virtual reality camera satellite, called Overview 1, will be launched into low Earth orbit next summer.
The satellite is equipped with 4K sensors and will capture high resolution footage of Earth from orbit. SpaceVR has said that it wants to make the experience as accessible as possible, so it will be viewable on any VR headset.
SpaceVR will be assisted by the International Space Station and SpaceX in the process of deploying Overview 1.
Ultimately, the company wants to be able to sell subscriptions to a live 360-degree feed, which will “immerse someone in space as if they were floating outside.”
Overview 1 will embark on its voyage in June 2017.
