The Rio Olympics, running from August 5 to August 21, will be one of the biggest sporting events of the year, and it is to be covered in virtual reality for the first time.
NBC is planning to dip its toes into the waters of covering sporting events in virtual reality with programming of the Olympics. There will be 85 hours of VR videos in all, which will be shot by the Olympic Broadcastings Services and distributed to international providers.
The opening and closing ceremonies, as well as events in beach volleyball, diving, fencing, men’s basketball, gymnastics, and track and field will be covered as part of the programming.
