PlayStation VR Release Date Revealed

2016 is most certainly the year of virtual reality, and another major device is on the way.

Sony PlayStation had previously announced their intention to release a major new addition to their lineup in the form of the PlayStation VR, and now we know when it’s arriving.

At E3 2016 is was confirmed that the PlayStation VR will launch worldwide on the 13th of October 2016.

So what is it? Well essentially in the box you’ll get a VR headset which looks extremely futuristic and comes with its own earphones. You’ll also find a Processor unit which is where a lot of the magic happens.

This unit connects directly to your PlayStation 4 and helps with the heavy lifting required to create two images at a very high framerate with low latency, or lag – that’s essential to avoiding motion sickness while playing in VR.

The headset will need to be connected via a HDMI cable at all times – that’s a feature of this first generation of VR, with wireless networks unable to handle the vast amounts of data needed.

As for what it will do, there will be 50 games released by the end of 2016 and you’ll also be able to enjoy movies and other entertainment in a more immersive way than ever before. It’s like carrying around your own TV with incredible 3D graphics, which should prove useful when someone else wants to watch something on the telly!

Look for plenty more on the PlayStation VR ahead of its launch on the 13th of October 2016.
