Facebook is getting into the image and video sharing war with a new app, according to insiders.
The app would be designed to compete with the likes of Snapchat, offering users numerous ways to create visual ways to engage their friends and followers.
You may think that a platform like Facebook wouldn’t need to encourage more engagement between its users, but photo and video sharing has fallen sharply in recent years. Facebook needs content to keep its 1.5 billion constant browsers happy, and to keep the advertising revenue flowing.
The app is currently in its early stages of development and isn’t guaranteed to get a full release but it’s a sign that the social media giant is looking into new ways to bring users into the fold and keep them there by whatever means necessary.
Snapchat currently has a little over 100 million users a day, a small fraction of Facebook’s number, but they are almost neck and neck in terms of video views at over 7 billion per day, which is pretty staggering. Snapchat is certainly doing something right, and Facebook wants to try to get back on that bandwagon as soon as possible.
