Apple has been releasing aluminium-backed iPhones for some time now, but may be about to go back to its roots in a bid to stand out from the crowd.
Next year’s iPhone is being tipped to feature a glass back, according to a note to investors from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. He informed investors that many of Apple’s competitors have been releasing aluminium-cased phones, and that is what is prompting this change in design philosophy.
This would make the next iPhone a little heavier than its predecessors, but Apple is planning to counteract this by adding an AMOLED screen to the new iPhone. An AMOLED screen would compensate for the added weight of a glass back.
Apple’s next iPhone is expected to be unveiled in September, but it’s likely we’ll be waiting until next year for an iPhone with a glass back.
