Google Doodle Celebrates International Women’s Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day, a time to celebrate the contributions to society of over half the world’s population.

It was first celebrated back in 1909 and it has changed many times since then, with a focus on bringing more women into the world place and spreading information on the nature of the gender divide to a more general championing of exemplary women in certain fields.

For 2016, Google is adding their voice to the celebration with their Google Doodle which takes you to a special video showcasing the hashtag #OneDayIWill. It’s a glimpse at the aspirations of girls and woman around the world, and also of how far we’ve come and the journey still ahead.

The theme of International Women’s Day 2016 is ‘Planet 50-50 by 2030’ – with a goal of massively improving gender equality in all areas. That includes equal wages between men and women but also something as basic as access to adequate education for everyone, regardless of their gender with over 60 million girls all over the world currently denied access to schools.

Google wants you to share your own #OneDayIWill story and you can find out more right here.
