Video game roundup – the biggest titles between now and Christmas

With the summer drought behind us, we’re being treated to some great gaming releases. But the next few months are packed with some of the biggest titles of the year. These are the titles that will be topping charts and Christmas lists in the months to come.

Fallout 4

Release Date: November 10th, 2015

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

It’s been five years since Fallout fans had a new adventure to sink their teeth into, so anticipation has reached fever pitch for the upcoming release of Fallout 4. The game is set 200 years after a nuclear war with the player emerging from an underground Vault in Boston. Little is known about what will happen thereafter, so there is plenty of mystery and suspense surrounding Fallout 4. Bethesda has promised plenty of free updates and content as well as fairly meaty DLC to be released after launch.

Star Wars: Battlefront

Release Date: November 17th, 2015

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

What a year to be a Star Wars fan. The adventure continues this year with the release of The Force Awakens, and players will be able to bring their fantasies to life in Star Wars: Battlefront. If the spectacular E3 trailer is anything to go by, every game will be epic. Rebel soldiers and Stormtroopers will do battle on the ground with Walkers stomping around for good measure, while X-Wings and Tie Fighers blast overhead, offering support, covering fire, and dogfighting amongst themselves. We cannot wait.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Release Date: November 13th, 2015

Platforms: Xbox One and Xbox 360

Lara Croft’s adventure continues in Rise of the Tomb Raider. After the events of the first game left their mark on our hero, Lara embarks on another adventure to prove that she’s not insane. But a well-funded organisation is also interested in the same myths and legends, which means that the race is on. And it’s not necessarily a race that the organisation will play fair to win. Unfortunately, Rise of the Tomb Raider is an Xbox exclusive at launch. PC players will be able to experience the adventure sometime in Q1 2016, but PlayStation 4 players will be waiting until late next year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III

Release Date: November 6th, 2015

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360

Call of Duty strikes a chord with gamers year after year, and this year should be no different. Black Ops III continues the intriguing Black Ops storyline, which is probably the most enjoyable one. And, as always, expect a comprehensive multiplayer experience that will keep players entertained until the next one is released. Not only will it offer a variety of competitive multiplayer game modes and experiences, but the Zombies mode is going bigger and better than ever with appearances from Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, Neal McDonough and Ron Perlman.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate

Release Date: October 3rd, 2015

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

If you’ve played the Assassin’s Creed franchise to date, you have a fair idea of what to expect from Syndicate. This time, Ubisoft takes us to London at the time of the Industrial Revolution. The story follows twins Jacob and Evie Frye as they survive London’s underground, while fighting against the established order controlled by the Templars. Side missions have a real impact this time around, as they’ve been designed to reflect the fight for power in London and are connected to the main story. It’s a rich time period and allows for appearances from notable figures like Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin.

Just Cause 3

Release Date: December 1st, 2015

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

If you think blockbuster games are lacking when it comes to explosions, Just Cause 3 will burst onto the scene in December to rectify that. The game is set years after the events of Just Cause 2 with Rico Rodriguez returning home. But he finds that the island paradise is under the control of Dictator General Di Ravello who seeks world domination. It looks like it’s up to you to destroy his plans, literally and figuratively. Players will have access to all sorts of toys, including missile launchers, fighter jets, infinite C4, and more. Just remember, cool guys don’t look at explosions.

Listed above are some of the biggest and most anticipated titles coming in the next few months, but we have to give some honourable mentions to some other games too. Keep an eye out for the likes of Need for Speed, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Football Manager 2016, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, among others; they are bound to have people talking in the months ahead.
