So what’s new this year? Sure computers are getting smaller and TVs are getting even bigger, but the real area of interest at CES 2014 is wearable technology. The industry has been a buzz since IFA Berlin (European equivalent of CES) back in October 2013, where Samsung unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Gear watch. But since then, the category of wearable tech has just exploded; we have seen brands like Sony, LG, Pebble, Jawbone and FitBit each release new products in this category this year. We have even seen a development in wearable tech in the form of baby grows and integrated workout gear. It’s not all about fitness, wearable tech utilises technology and connectivity to enhance our everyday lives, from fitness to sleep, tooth brushing to sun exposure, monitoring our activities has never been easier. Connectivity is huge and will be a primary category for 2014.
As expected, CES showcased many offerings from the big TV brands. We had 4K, 5K, UHD, OLED, curved TV and even convertible curved TV, but which were the developments that mattered the most?
“This year at CES, TVs just keep getting bigger and design continues to evolve with a number of curved screens on show. My favourite was the Samsung 105” curved ultra-high definition TV.”Jason Sawkins, General Manager – Electrical, Harvey Norman Ireland
With TVs getting bigger, more immersive and with even higher resolution, does this mean the end for 3D TV?
"Going forward 3D will very much take a back seat to super high definition 4K plus TV's and be nothing more than a niche feature for occasional viewing"Cathal McGee, Audio Visual Product and Marketing Manager – Harvey Norman Ireland
For me, the highlight of CES this year is the Oculus Rift. The Oculus Rift is an immersive gaming accessory that brings augmented reality and 3D gaming to your living room. Play video games in a whole new way with this 360 degree 3D gaming headset. While still in its developmental phase, Oculus are leading the way in this category and the Oculus Rift is set for commercial release later this year. This is one of the most exciting and innovative products we've seen at CES this year and certainly one to watch for 2014/15!

In Short: International CES is over for another year where over 3,000 exhibitors from across the world gathered in Las Vegas to showcase the latest in consumer tech
