The Spiders 2019: Harvey Norman shortlisted for two awards

The Spiders, Ireland’s prestigious digital awards, recently announced their shortlist and we’re delighted to say that we’ve been nominated for Best in Retail & Ecommerce and Best Use of Disruptive Technology.

As another award show beckons for Harvey Norman, we can’t help but look back at how far we’ve come in seven short years. We’ve seen incredible growth since our website launched in November 2012; we now have over 14,000 products online!

Our Go Blog also launched in 2012, with the aim of bringing our customers useful insights, tips and information on our diverse range of products. Today, we would like to tell you about the Spiders and why we’ve been shortlisted.

The Spiders

The Spiders are Ireland’s longest running digital awards; so we’re over the moon to be shortlisted next to so many other great companies and websites this year. Established in 1996, the Spiders award companies that “embrace the ongoing change in the digital landscape and pioneer the industry standard for digital, web, community, and brand excellence.”

The awards have been transformed this year to incorporate the wide range of online businesses, as Managing Director Tracey Carney explains.

“The world has gone through a digital transformation and so too have the Spiders. We have designed the categories under three core pillars: Campaign, Create and Industry. These pillars celebrate the intersection between the human, the brand and technology. Our judges are looking for companies that are delivering best in class customer experience by harnessing the power of digital.”

Our Nominations

RETAIL & ECOMMERCE

Simply put, the goal of the campaign behind our nomination for Best in Retail & Ecommerce was to align the online shopping realm with the offline world. We wanted to make it as easy as possible for our customers to find the right product and do so in the shortest possible time.

Our digital omni-channel strategy is now at the core of Harvey Norman Ireland’s business. Year on year, we are seeing a jump in the percentage of customers shopping directly online with us or are driven into one of our stores having researched their purchases online.

In a recent survey of customers, conducted by us, 80% of them researched online before purchasing in-store. Our website now plays a huge role in driving footfall in-store.

USE OF DISRUPTIVE TECH

We also wanted to give customers the opportunity to investigate our products from the comfort of their homes, which is why we introduced cutting edge Augmented Reality (AR) modeling. Customers can use AR to virtually place products in any room in their home simply by using their smartphone.

For example, a leather sofa is rendered so well in AR that you can actually see the grade of the leather. It really helps the customer picture the item in their home, and it reassures them that what they see is what they get.
