CES 2019: Here’s what we Learnt

The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is over for another year. Between January 8th-11th, we were given a glimpse of some of the incredible tech products due for release in the coming year. Among the technology to debut were all-in-one smartwatches, gaming laptops, robots that look out for you and much more. The show of course is of great interest to us techies here at Harvey Norman, so we’ve taken a look at some of the technology coming our way this year.

So, where can we expect big changes in 2019?

Home Entertainment

Sennheiser turned up to CES 2019 with their brand new Ambeo Soundbar. This soundbar has 13 built-in drivers, true 3D sound effects, multiple surround sound channels and an unparalleled sense of reality. You can even control it all from either the app or remote. Its advanced sound calibration customises sound to the layout of your room, guaranteeing precise sound each and every time you use it. The soundbar also has built-in Google Chromecast and Bluetooth connectivity.

Connected Health & Fitness

One of the most interesting smartwatches to come out of CES 2019 is the Scallop 2 by Kate Spade, a company owned by Fossil. This touchscreen watch can be used to track your steps, calories and heart-rate while also allowing you to make payments with Google Pay. The watch also has a high-end stainless steel design and strap options to choose from.

Apple have also announced a new strap for their Apple Watch that will monitor your hydration.

CES once again brought to light some incredible advancements in TV technology. This time around however, it wasn’t just stunning visuals and applications that caught the eye, but something a little more unexpected. LG have been teasing the idea of a rolling TV for a while now and they’ve finally given the people what they want. When called upon, the LG OLED TV R will appear from its base to produce stunning visuals. Dolby Vision meets the a9 Gen 2 Intelligent Processor to bring colour to life in ways never seen before. You can even control the TV with your voice thanks to LG ThinQ, with Google Assistant and Alexa also built-in. All-in-all, the LG OLED TV R is the most futuristic TV on the market.

Smart Home

Conventional alarm clocks are out of time. Smart alarm clocks are all the rage at the minute and the most talked about one at CES 2019 was the Lenovo Smart Clock. This little wonder does much more than just tell the time; its alarm gently wakes you at a set time, its news feed keeps you up to date and if that’s not enough, Google Assistant is there to answer any questions you have. The smart clock also has Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port that you can use to charge your phone.

One final point of note was the big winner during CES 2019: the Impossible Burger 2.0. We couldn’t help but mention it because, as you may have noticed, we’re food lovers! This plant-based burger is said to taste just as good, if not better than the real thing. Either way, we can’t wait for it to make its way to these shores!
