Buying a new appliance is a big deal for most people, with the acquisition of a new washing machine or refrigerator being a serious investment for the future. Nobody wants to make a mistake and end up buying something that they’ll have to replace in a few years. A recent report from Bosch investigated the shopping habits of Irish people to discover what really mattered to them when it comes to appliances.
Unsurprisingly, eight out of ten consumers bought home appliances based on an urgent need. The reality is that an appliance is rarely bought on a whim and that most people who are replacing an appliance are doing so because they really need a new one. The top three factors that influenced their decision about which appliance to buy were price, reliability and running costs. Price was the most common decision factor but reliability wasn’t far behind, showing that appliances are one area where shoppers aren’t prepared to take a chance.
Online Research and Reviews
In order to assess the reliability, shoppers are increasingly turning to online resources to assess the competition. Eight out of ten shoppers revealed that they did online research before making a purchase. This is hardly a surprise – if you’re looking for a reliable addition to the home, the natural thing is to check out peer reviews and other online resources to crowdsource as much information as possible before you hand over your hard-earned cash. Even if they researched products online, most preferred to buy in a shop. Six in ten people did their research online before making an offline purchase.
The results back up the ethos of the Bosch company, which has always placed reliability and value at the heart of its customer promise. Founder Robert Bosch set out his stall with a famous quote that set the standards for his company: “I have always acted according to the principle that ‘I would rather lose money than trust’,” he said. “The integrity of my promises, the belief in the value of my products and in my word of honour have always had a higher priority to me than a transitory profit.”
The same focus on product reliability and value has continued to this day. Bosch washing machines are tested a thousand times to make sure they meet the company’s exacting standards before they go on sale. Before it leaves the factory, every aspect of the machine is subjected to rigorous stress tests.
So it’s only when every one of the thousand-odd components in a machine meets Bosch’s high standards of quality, functionality and reliability that it is ready to be used by the customer. Another priority is making sure that each washing machine uses the lowest possible power and water consumption, ensuring that you pay less on your power bills and that you’re doing your bit for the environment.
All Bosch machines are designed to conserve natural resources. So you can be sure that you’re getting an environmentally-friendly, reliable, quality product when you part with your hard-earned money.
