LG may have accidentally outed an 8K iMac

Apple is usually quite secretive about its plans. But the same perhaps cannot be said of its partners. LG may have accidentally revealed that Apple has an 8K iMac in the works.

LG sent out a press release explaining how the world is turning to 8K. It discussed its own 98-inch 8K TV, which it unveiled at CES 2015, and mentioned Apple’s plans to release “the ‘iMac 8K’ with a super-high resolution display later this year.”

Apple has made no such announcement. So that means that LG shared information that wasn’t meant to be known publicly, made a mistake in its press release, or threw it in there to grab some attention.

That’s not to say that we won’t see an 8K iMac at some point in the future. Apple already has a 27-inch 5K retina iMac with 5,120 x 2,880 pixels. 8K screens are starting to appear, but they are unlikely to be released until next year. It seems unlikely that Apple will be so far ahead of the curve that it will release an 8K iMac this year.

LG has since removed the post and is yet to comment on it. Somehow, we doubt LG will say anything about this incident.

In Short: LG may have revealed what Apple plans to do next. In a press release, LG mentioned that Apple has announced an 8K iMac, which it hasn’t…yet.
