Did you know that today is Safer Internet Day?
Safer Internet Day (SID) is an EU wide initiative set up to promote a safer internet for everyone, especially younger users.
The theme of this year’s SID 2018 is:
“Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you”
Here in Ireland it’s promoted by the PDST Technology in Education and Webwise, and we’re happy to report that schools right across the country are getting involved with over 70,000 young people participating in this year’s celebrations.
There are events taking place all over Ireland aimed at teaching young people the importance of staying safe on the internet and how they can protect themselves against strangers.
The events also teach young people how to stay positive on the internet and make sure they have a healthy balance with screen time.
In addition to providing schools with invaluable resources about how to achieve a safer internet for everyone, SID also offers parents high-quality resources on internet safety plus the support they need to ensure their children make the most of their time online.
These resources cover everything from social media to cyberbullying, new technologies and everything in between, providing parents with an in-depth understanding of how the internet works today.
More and more people are using the internet for longer periods of time, which is why it’s so important that we work towards an inclusive internet that is safe for everyone to use.
