Harvey Norman Ireland turns 15 on October 5th and to celebrate we’re throwing a massive Birthday Sale in-store and online! It’s been an incredible journey that has seen us expand to 15 stores throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland. We have a number of staff members who have remained with us through all the ups and downs and we’re eager to hear the many reasons why they’ve stayed with us for so long. Let’s meet one and discover what makes Harvey Norman a great place to work.
Today’s interviewee is Willie Morgan who works in Store Operations for our Electrical Department. We caught up with him to take a trip down memory lane, knocking on a few doors along the way!
HN: What was your first job in Harvey Norman?
Willie: I started out working in-store in the Electrical Department. Then I took on a new role that focuses on what we call the ‘Whites’ category, which is washing machines, dishwashers, fridges and freezers. I was traveling around to stores and working on new store openings. Then for a while I worked in the Harvey Norman Head Office.
HN: What do you love about Harvey Norman?
Willie: I love the Harvey Norman culture, the buzz in-stores and excitement of working for such a great company. I was hooked from the start.
HN: Can you describe your Harvey Norman journey?
Willie: My Harvey Norman journey is an exciting one. Every day is challenging. It wasn’t easy growing the company from infancy to the successful company Harvey Norman is today. However, it shows that all of our efforts are worthwhile and it makes me very proud to be part of such a great company. I remember seeing the empty Harvey Norman shop in Swords Retail park. It was just built and was an empty shell inside, a complete open space. I was blown away by the size, it was huge! We had never seen anything like that in Ireland before. I thought how are we going to fill it and of course we did! That was the start of my 15 year journey with Harvey Norman.
Willie’s story sums up the culture of Harvey Norman, whereby everyone is given the opportunity to develop both personally and professionally. It’s how we work and with people like Willie working for us, we can’t say it hasn’t been a success!
