Harvey Norman Ireland turns 15 on October 5th and to celebrate we’re throwing a massive Birthday Sale in-store and online! It’s been an incredible journey that has seen us expand to 15 stores throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland. We have a number of staff members who have remained with us through all the ups and downs and we’re eager to hear the many reasons why they’ve stayed with us for so long. Let’s meet one and discover what makes Harvey Norman a great place to work.
Alan Smyth is one of our Warehouse Managers. When we met him, he said what he loved most about Harvey Norman were its people; “we have a great bunch of people from all walks of life and who do different roles in Harvey Norman, all of which add to the company.” It’s not only our people that he loves, it’s also “our stores. They change all the time and we always have the latest products in stock. I like cameras and drones but I always love a well designed and funky chair! I don’t know where the passion for chairs came from but we have so many for me to choose from!”
Above all though, Alan loves “developing people.” He said he loves to see staff who are new, who start off at ground level and develop into leaders in our business. He’s not wrong here either, as we’ve leaders all over the business who have worked their way up through years of hard work and dedication.
So, what’s made Alan stay for so long? “My Journey in Harvey Norman has been both one of learning my trade and a personal development. I’ve progressed through the company and the level of training provided has played a big part in that.” The training that Alan has referred to is offered at every level in Harvey Norman because we want people to be the best that they can be. With such fantastic and regular opportunities to grow, it’s no wonder people like Alan have stayed with us for so long!
