You spend, or should spend, around eight hours a day in bed. With advancements in sleeping surfaces, new research pointing out how beneficial quality sleep is, and changes in our lifestyle, it may be time make a change. Here are nine reasons why you need a new bed.
1.Time well spent
If you do manage to get the recommended eight hours in bed, you’ll spend a third of your life in bed. By the time you are 50, you will have spent around 16 years in bed. It’s certainly worth making all this time as comfortable as possible.
2. Health is wealth
Adequate sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle and can help ward off illness. But it’s bit just the amount of sleep you get that’s important, but the quality of it too. A good bed can make all the difference.
3. Bigger is better
You may need a bigger bed. A standard double bed (135cm/4ft 6in) gives each person just 2ft 3in of space. To put that in perspective, that’s less space than a baby has in a cot.
4. Hitting new heights
As a population, we’ve gotten taller, and possibly even a little wider. We don’t want to shame anyone, but we do need a little more wiggle room than previous generations.
5. Growth spurts
The average adult actually grows while they are asleep by as much as 2cm. Our spines are compressed during the day, but given the chance to straighten and recover at night. Unfortunately, we never get to enjoy this added height.
6. Keeping up with the Joneses
We all like to keep up with trends and larger beds are becoming more popular than ever.
7. Toss and turn
The average person moves around 60 to 70 times in their sleep, which can impact another person if they are in close quarters. A little more room could go a long way towards ensuring a better night’s sleep.
8. Cost efficient
It’s not that expensive to move up a size. The difference between a 5ft Regency King Bed Frame with Drawers and a 6ft Regency Super King Bed Frame with Drawers, for example, is just €100.
9 Impossible to go back
Once you’ve had a taste of the good life in a King Size bed, you won’t want to go back to something smaller. There have been trials where people, formerly happy with their double beds, suddenly wanted to upgrade after trying a King Size bed.
