Tips to Help You Prepare For Spring Cleaning

Spring has traditionally been a time to clean the house from top to bottom. It can be quite the task, mainly because we let things pile up, but there are some steps that you can take to make it a bit more manageable.

Make a to-do list

Yes, you could just jump straight in, but it can be very easy to get disorganised or let the task get on top of you. Creating a to-do list shows exactly what needs to be done and where, so you can make a plan of action, and seeing items being crossed off the list can be a great motivator.

Check dates

There are some things that stay in a cupboard until they’re needed urgently, and that’s the worst possible time to find out that they’re out of date. Go through presses with medicines and take stock of what you have. It’s also wise to go through kitchen presses, your fridge, and your freezer too. It’s a quick task that may free up some much needed space.

Clear out the closet

A change in seasons is a great time to switch out clothes that you (hopefully!) won’t need in the months ahead. Bulky sweaters get replaced by more airy dresses and jumpers, which is a mood lifter in itself. And it’s the perfect time to get rid of clothes that you didn’t wear.

Do quick sweeps

Not every chore needs to be a time-consuming task. Whipping through a room with a basket, picking up what doesn’t belong, and putting them back in their spot is a quick job that makes a positive start on the spring clean.

Stock up

Before you get started, you should stock up on essential cleaning supplies and tools. There’s nothing worse than getting struck by the motivation to get stuck into the task at hand, only to have to rush to the shop to pick up some supplies. Your to-do list lets you know what you need to do; make sure you have a list of what you’ll need along the way.
