As Sleep Pink in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation kicks off for the fourth time this October at Harvey Norman stores nationwide it’s worth taking a few minutes to delve into organisation which will be benefitting from the campaign.
The Marie Keating Foundation was set up by Ronan Keating and his siblings in the wake of their mother’s death from cancer. Marie Keating was just 51 when she passed away in February 1998, only six months after being given the all clear.
In the months after this tragedy, the Keating family found out that the particular strain of cancer which Marie had is often curable and their lack of knowledge about the disease might have contributed to their death. And so they set up the Marie Keating Foundation, aiming to make sure that everyone was as informed as they could be about the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
The organisation aims to beat cancer through awareness, education and support services. This provides help at different stages of the process both for those suffering from the disease and their caregivers.
One major way the Marie Keating Foundation gets the important information out there is via their mobile information units. These three purpose-built vehicles tour the entire country with a trained nurse and reading material on every aspect of cancer, giving you a private space to learn whatever you need to know. In October, these mobile units will be visiting several Harvey Norman stores – click here for details.
Other services include information packs on the website and a portal to send questions to a nurse, as well as how to apply for financial aid through the National Comfort Fund.
In October 2014, Harvey Norman Ireland is running their Sleep Pink initiative for the fourth year. Throughout the month, a percentage of the sale price of any items in their Sleep Pink collection will be donated to the Marie Keating Foundation. They’re hoping to raise at least €30,000 and you can find out more information here.
In Short: Harvey Norman is supporting the Marie Keating Foundation in October with their Sleep Pink promotion but here’s more about the incredible organisation itself
