There’s nothing like waking up in the morning to blue skies and sunshine. Of course, if you’re anything like us, the heat can take its toll on you throughout the day, or make it difficult to sleep at night. We don’t want to wish the warm weather away, so we’ve come up with some tricks and tips to help us stay cool.
Lightweight and loose-fitting clothing can help to keep you cool, even moreso if it’s light in colour, as this reflects sunlight better. Don’t forget about your head; a wide brimmed hat can keep you cool by providing you with some shade. But, in extreme heat, you’re better off using a bandanna folded into a triangle and wrapped over your head.
Stay hydrated. Water is essential to keep you cool during hot weather. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, you should be drinking water. Freezing a bottle of water is a great trick because while the water starts as ice, it will start melting when you take it out of the freezer and gives you a source of chilled water for hours. Just make sure you wrap it in a towel if you’re leaving it in a bag with other items.
It may sound strange, but warm weather is the perfect time to enjoy spicy food. Meals like curries and chillies can stimulate heat receptors in the mouth. This enhances circulation and causes sweating. As this water evaporates, you will feel cooler.
Warm weather is when some gadgets come into their own. If you have an old fan lying around, you can use this to cool down a room. It’s best to use it next to an open window so that it draws air in from outside instead of simply circulating warm air around a room. If this isn’t an option, place a bowl with some ice in it in front of the fan.
You are also perfectly justified to treat yourself when the temperature climbs. The Dyson Cool Fan AM06 range arrived last year with a distinctive design and incredible cooling capabilities. The Cold Desk Fan, for example, comes equipped with ten airflow settings, so you can find your comfort zone.
With this knowledge, you should be able to enjoy the good weather and sleep well at night. Just remember to be sensible, stay indoors or stick to the shade if you’re uncomfortable, and wear sunscreen.
In Short: Summer is on the way, bringing the good weather and rising temperatures with it. Here are some tips to help you stay cool as the temperatures rise.
