Hundreds of brand new emojis are set to make their way to the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch later this year as part of the iOS 11.1 update.
Apple revealed a number of the new emojis over the weekend in an article posted on the Apple Newsroom such as some very cool-looking mythical creatures, delectable food types and more.
According to Emojipedia, the Internet’s authority on all things emoji, the iOS 11.1 update will bring with it 239 new emojis, including the various gender and skin tone options available for certain emojis.
However, the full set has yet to be confirmed so you may find some slight changes between the provisional and final list.
Speaking about the new additions in the Newsroom post, Apple said:
‘The new emoji are designed to reveal every detail and adapted from approved characters in Unicode 10. iOS 11.1 will also include characters announced on World Emoji Day like Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person, Breastfeeding, Zombie, Person in Lotus Position and new food items such as Sandwich and Coconut. Also included in the update is the Love-You Gesture, designed after the “I love you” hand sign in American Sign Language.’
Some of our favourite emojis from the new set include the vampire and dinosaur emojis, and we’re also particularly fond of the rock climbing emoji!
While Apple is yet to reveal when the new emojis will be officially launched, they will be available to use this week as part of the developer and public beta previews of iOS 11.1.
They will automatically be added to Apple devices as part of the iOS 11.1 update for iOS, macOS and watchOS, which is likely due before the end of the year.
