If there’s one thing that’s guaranteed every year when winter rolls around, it’s a rise in the cost of our energy bills.
The weather is colder, the nights are longer and sadly there is often little to do apart from sit ourselves on the couch and enjoy the wonders of the television.
While there’s not much you can do to reduce your heating or electricity use (it is colder and darker after all!), a new breed of smart appliances designed to reduce your energy bills could help to keep costs down this autumn and winter.
Take for example, the Siemens iQ500 9kg Washing Machine.
Washing machines aren’t generally known for their energy efficiency, but this nifty little smart appliance is changing that notion one wash at a time.
This is all thanks to the iQ500’s dosing system, a very forward-thinking feature that accurately determines how much detergent and fabric softener you need for each individual wash.
To do this, the iQ500 works out what kind of clothes you’re washing, the load size and how dirty the garments are, which in turn reduces the amount of water needed to rinse the clothes resulting in lower energy bills.
Similarly, the Electrolux Tumble Dryer helps to keep energy bills down by reusing the heat vented from the dyer’s exhaust to further dry your clothes.
It’s a pretty smart use of what would be otherwise wasted energy. When talking to the Irish Times in a recent article Mark Cullen advised “switch from a vented model to a heat-pump model because some of these can cost less than €45 to run per year for the average family, based on four to five 8kg cycles per week. Ask which ones also minimise creasing.
Smart appliances are set to take the world by storm over the next few years, so why not invest in a brand new smart appliance today and see how much money you could save on energy bills!
