Far Cry 3 made a splash with both fans and critics alike thanks to its colourful villains, its exotic setting, and the liberating freedom that it provided players. Ubisoft intends to replicate this formula again this year with Far Cry 4.

Far Cry 4 takes players to the wild and untamed region of the Himalayas known as Kyrat. The map was leaked earlier this week and shows a vast world to explore. There are six locations in Kyrat: Himalayan, Mountaninous (Coniferous & Larch), Midlands (Mixed Forest & Quercus) and Terai. This world will provide players with plenty of activities, side missions, and freedom to do what they like.

One of the criticisms of Far Cry 3 that Ubisoft hopes to address with this year’s instalment is how the storyline and open world mesh with one another. For Far Cry 4, the development team has made efforts to ensure that these two elements complement each other. Players are sure to appreciate this, as the trailers released to date showcase a fascinating world full of opportunity and an intriguing storyline with some unique characters.

The single player portion of the game puts players in the role of Ajay Ghale, an English-speaking Nepalese native. He returns to Kyrat to scatter his mother’s ashes, but gets caught up in a civil war between the people and the oppressive monarchy of the self-appointed king Pagan Min.

Once again, players will be able to approach scenarios as they see fit. While the local wildlife can be quite dangerous upon encounter, it can be set upon enemies just as easily. Players can take a stealthy approach or go all-guns blazing. And, if you like a good dose of wackiness, one trailer showed a character driving a dirtbike off a cliff, popping a wingsuit, flying close to a plane, and blowing it up with a grenade. That’s one way to get your adrenaline fill.

Far Cry 4 will also feature multiplayer with three different modes available. Outpost and Propaganda tasks players with attacking and defending objectives; while Demon Mask is essentially Capture the Flag. It’s been a while since Far Cry has featured competitive multiplayer, so hopefully it is a grand return.

Trailers released to date have done their job of ensuring that Far Cry 4 is one of the more eagerly anticipated games of the year. Fans will be hoping that Ubisoft can make lightning strike two years in a row.

Far Cry 4 will be released on November 21st.

In Short: Far Cry 4 is one of the most anticipated titles of the year. Find out all you need to know about the upcoming game.
