This year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 conference saw the announcement of plenty of exciting new games for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, in addition to new hardware like the upcoming Xbox One X console.
Among these announcements was Sony’s reveal of PlayLink, a new PlayStation 4 feature that transforms smartphones and tablets into adaptable controllers so PS4 owners can play specially developed PlayLink titles with their friends and family.
Sony is billing PlayLink as a new way to play video games with others and is bringing out a whole collection of brand new games designed to be played by a group of people, resulting in fun and memorable experiences different to the traditional gaming experiences of the PlayStation 4.
The games range from crime thrillers to party quizzes to arcade style mini-games, all perfect for playing in a group setting with gamers and non-gamers alike.
PlayLink is super simple to use: download the free companion app to your smartphone or tablet, hook your PS4 to your TV and you’ll be ready for a fun filled evening with plenty of hijinks.
It takes full advantage of all of your smartphone or tablet’s features: swipe, drag, pinch, tilt and rotate your way to victory, and you can draw doodles and take selfies with some of the games.
PlayLink offers PS4 owners a new and exciting way to play with others and is reminiscent of the party games made popular by the Nintendo Wii console.
Speaking about the new feature in a blog, Sony said:
‘PlayLink combines your smartphone or tablet device, TV and PS4 console, with a collection of brand new games… No matter which title you choose from our PlayLink collection, it’s guaranteed to be a slick pick-up-and-play experience.’
PlayLink launches on July 4th.
