Nothing quite says Christmas like curling up on the couch with a tin of Roses, the fire lighting, Christmas tree lights on and a festive movie on the TV. Here are our top three festive films.
You are guaranteed to flick on the TV and find Home Alone playing over the festive season. It frequently claims the position as the top Christmas movie of all time and we have to agree – nothing put us in the festive spirit quite like Kevin McAllister. Played by the irresistibly cute Macaulay Culkin, Kevin is an 8-year-old who’s accidentally left at home by his vacationing family at Christmas and has to defend his home from burglars. Cue hijinks, hilarity and hilarious incidents involving domestic appliances!
THE MUPPETS CHRISTMAS CAROL
The Muppets tell their version of the classic Dickens tale of an old and bitter man’s redemption on Christmas Eve. Kermit the Frog plays Bob Cratchit while Michael Caine takes on Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge receives visits from spirits of three Christmases but the miserable old man seems to be past any hope of redemption and happiness. With appearances from Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear and Sam the Eagle, The Muppets Christmas Carol warmth and wit make it one of our favourite Christmas movies.
A modern classic, Elf tells the story of Buddy (Will Ferrell) who was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood as one of Santa’s elves. Never quite feeling like he fit in, Buddy learns of his true identity as a human and travels to New York in his full elf uniform to meet his biological father, spreading Christmas cheer as he goes.
