Events On St. Patrick’s Day Weekend

St. Patrick’s Day is a wonderful celebration of Irishness with events and parades taking place up and down the country. Here are some of the headline events to check out this weekend.

2016 National St. Patrick’s Parade

This year’s parade features the theme “Imagine if…” and is inspired by the youth of Ireland as they imagine what will unfold over the next 100 years. Pageant companies will bring these ideas to life, while music ensembles from USA, UK, and Brittany will provide musical entertainment throughout the day. The parade leaves from Parnell Sq. North and charts a course through the centre of the city before finishing up at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The Laughter Lounge Presents: Best of Irish

The Laughter Lounge is on the hunt for the funniest comedian in Ireland, bringing six incredibly funny people together for a wonderful side-splitting event. No matter who is crowned the funniest in Ireland, everyone will be a winner on the night.

Four Seasons Walking Festival

Ireland is known worldwide for its picturesque locations and scenery, so what better way to celebrate our national holiday by exploring the beauty that Connemara has to offer. There are a range of events on offer, including hikes in the Twelve Bens and the Maumturk Mountains and walks on the islands of Aran, Omey and Inishbofin.

Cork City Parade

The Parade kicks off at 1pm from the heart of the City Centre, taking in the Grand Parade and Bishop Lucey Park along the way. There will be plenty to enjoy on the day, including a festival market, local trad music, and the onstreet antics of Wobbly Circus.

The Fiddle Case

Following the parade in Ennis is a free live trad session in the glór foyer. It’s the perfect way to continue the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations if you’re in Ennis on the day.

Galway’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival

Galway is known for its culture and you can expect its Parade and surrounding Festival to be full of colour, music, and impressive works of art. The festival is used as a platform to showcase local artists and community groups with Macnas and Gamelan Na Gallimhe rounding out the parade.
